Summit of the Future Action Days (20 – 21 September 2024)

Who can attend the Summit of the Future Action Days (20 – 21 September 2024)?

The Summit of the Future Action Days will be open to all interested stakeholders and representatives of organizations whose work has been relevant in shaping, and/or to the implementation of, the Pact for the Future.

Summit of the Future No 40: Virtual Consultation with Co-facilitators on Rev 2 of the Pact for the Future, 31 July 2024

The Co-facilitators for the Pact for the Future, Ambassadors Antje Leendertse of Germany and Neville M Gertze of Namibia, have provided further information about the Virtual Consultation on Rev 2 of the Pact for the Future, in their letter dated 18 July 2024.

The Virtual Consultation will be held on 31 July from 10 am to 1pm (New York time) to provide the “opportunity for all stakeholders to share their reactions and views on Rev 2 of the Pact with Member States for the final intergovernmental negotiations.”

Summit of the Future No 39: Letter from Co-facilitators releasing Rev 2 of the Pact for the Future

In their letter of 17 July, the Co-facilitators for the Pact for the Future, Ambassadors Antje Leendertse of Germany and Neville M Gertze of Namibia, have provided information on the processes for the negotiations on the enclosed Rev 2 of the Pact for the Future. 

Their letter sets out the road-map for the negotiations on Rev 2, which has been prepared based on feedback received during the third reading, following its conclusion with an Ambassadorial-level meeting on 27 June.

Summit of the Future No 38: Rev 2 of Declaration on Future Generations

Rev 2 of the Declaration on Future Generations (DOFG) follows the same format as Rev 1, namely Preamble, Guiding Principles, Commitments and Actions.

A number of areas have been strengthened, including on the 2030 Agenda, the SDG Political Declaration and the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development (para 3); ensuring that present generations act with responsibility for safeguarding the needs and interests of future generations and understanding the interconnectedness of past, present and future (paras 6 & 7);

Civil society participation in the Summit of the Future

The resolution setting out the modalities for the Summit of the Future (SOTF) (A/RES/76/307) includes provisions multistakeholder participation in the Summit. (See Summit of the Future No 1 for further information). 

Organizations not in consultative status 

Organizations, not in consultative status with ECOSOC, were invited to apply to participate as observers. The deadline for which is now passed.

Summit of the Future No 37: Rev 1 of Declaration on Future Generations – Letter from Co-facilitators, dated 19 June 2024

Summit of the Future No 36: Rev 1 of Declaration on Future Generations – Virtual stakeholder briefing

The Co-facilitators for the Declaration on Future Generations, Ambassadors Yoka M G Brandt of the Netherlands and Brian Wallace of Jamaica have sent a letter convening a virtual stakeholder briefing.

It will be held on 12 June 2024 from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon New York time and will take place after the reading of Rev 1 on 10 June, giving  an opportunity for the Co-facilitators to “provide stakeholders with an  update on the intergovernmental process and receive their feedback.”
