Stop press — Final version of outcome document just released

The outcome document of the UN Summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development, has been released by the President of the General Assembly, together with a letter from the two Co-facilitators.

The date for a plenary meeting of the General Assembly to take action on a draft resolution to transmit the outcome document to the 70th session for consideration and adoption during the Summit will be made communicated in due course.

Transforming Our World: Comments from CSOs No 2: WMG says Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 Presents a Bold Vision for Women and Girls: Advocates Gear Up for Work to Come

UNITED NATIONS—The Women’s Major Group, made up of more than 600 women’s organizations and networks from around the world, recognizes the historic agenda for global sustainable development that 193 governments agreed to on Sunday. At the center of this broad and ambitious plan are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which will be formally adopted by Heads of State in September at the UN General Assembly. The SDGs chart out global development across social, environmental and economic areas for the next 15 years, and if fully implemented could be transformative for women and girls everywhere.

Transforming Our World: Comments from CSOs No 1: Response of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance.

On Sunday night August 2nd, the finalized post-2015 Agenda and sustainable development goals which will be signed off by Heads of State at the SDG Summit in September was adopted followed by a standing ovation at the UN and a lot of emotion in the room.  A truly historic moment where 193 countries of the world agreed on how to ensure a better future for humanity. 

A time to celebrate all the work we have done together as civil society over the past three years advocating for our  issues,  starting with the UN Secretary General’s High Level Panel Report, followed by the UN Open Working Group’s Outcome Document, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda and finally, the post-2015 “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. While the adopted document might not include all the issues we fought very hard to obtain until the end (for example explicit attention to the rights and needs of LGBTI people, comprehensive sexuality education and sexual rights), a large number of strong and historic commitments have been made that the world can be held accountable for in the coming fifteen years:

Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, post-adoption press conference

The UN Secretary-General was pleased to be able “to share some good news for people and our planet,” at a press conference with the Co-facilitators and others at the United Nations, following the adoption of Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. History had been made by approving a bold, ambitious and transformative sustainable development agenda for the next 15 years.

As he said the work begun by the High-level Panel of Eminent Persons, had ultimately became the most inclusive and transparent process in UN history and he thanked the Co-facilitators, Ambassadors Macharia Kamau and David Donoghue, as well as all those, including Member States, who had contributed to the making the consensus a reality. He referred specifically to civil society, who shared their vision of the world we want in developing what is truly a “We the Peoples agenda.”...

Post-2015 development agenda intergovernmental negotiations, 20-31 July, No 28: Building the consensus for adopting the Agenda and explanations of votes – Part 2 Member States positions and Co-facilitators concluding remarks

United States said they thanked the Co-facilitators for their leadership and herding skills and the work they have done and the constructive goodwill determination of outside stakeholders and are pleased to join consensus on the outcome's ambition. It reaffirms the transformative nature of the multilateral system, and is a global commitment to a different kind of future. They are giving birth to something momentous, a commitment to a different kind of future, ensuring that the birth of “any girl or any boy born today, in any place on this planet,” is an entrance into a world of hope, free of poverty, hunger, violence and discrimination, full of opportunity and prosperity, and living in harmony with the planet. His country is pleased to join this consensus and is ready to adopt the agenda.

Post-2015 development agenda intergovernmental negotiations, 20-31 July, No 27: Building the consensus for adopting the Agenda and explanations of votes – Part 1 Group positions

Ambassador Kamau, Co-facilitator, having pointed out all the changes that had been made to the Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, finalised text for adoption (1 August) expressed the confidence of the Co-facilitators and their teams that they have a document that meets with almost if not complete universal support and they seek their concurrence for adoption. He would take some statements to get a sense of the room as to whether there was consensus...
