Post-2015 development agenda intergovernmental negotiations, 20-31 July, No 26: Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with amendments (Unofficial version)

The outcome document, as adopted in the final plenary, included a number of amendments that were made during the final hours of the negotiations. These can be seen on this unofficial version of Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Ready to adopt!

According to Ambassador Macharia Kamau, Co-facilitator, this is indeed an historic moment. Before the formal adoption, however, a number of changes in the latest version of the document. These were read out by Nikhil Seth, Director of DSD. He was then thanked by Ambassador Kamau who then said that delegates had in front of them the document, in which the Co-facilitators have confidence that it has been negotiated ‘to the comma’...

Post-2015 development agenda intergovernmental negotiations, 20-31 July, No 25: Final plenary, part 3

Soon after 3.30 pm (EDT), Ambassador Kamau said to the meeting that there is “small but important matter” that will take another 30 – 40 minutes to resolve after which they will be ready to adopt the document. He asked everyone not to leave the room, but to maintain the momentum.

And three targets have been tweaked:

In target 2.5 in line3 “ensure” has been changed to “promote”

In target 7.b “and land-locked developing countries” has been added after “small island developing States”

In target 15.6 “Ensure” has been changed to “promote”

Post-2015 development agenda intergovernmental negotiations, 20-31 July, No 25: Final plenary, part 1

After intense negotiations over the weekend that resulted in the final text for adoption (1 August), and further negotiations during the morning, everyone was back in the room for the final session, at the beginning of which Ambassador Kamau announced changes in paragraphs 34, 44, 62 whilst there were no changes to paragraphs 68 and 69.

Hot off the press — Post-2015 development agenda intergovernmental negotiations, 20-31 July. No 24: Revised outcome document (August 1)

Very early on Sunday morning the Co-facilitators released the revised draft of the outcome document (August 1).

The plenary is scheduled to resume at 11am Sunday but as was the case on Saturday, this is subject to change. 

The main issues for negotiation, as reflected in the latest revised outcome document,  are on climate change and means of implementation (MOI). These may require further negotiation. Other issues that were discussed include migration, human rights, middle income countries (MICs), "other groups" and "social groups"...

Hot off the press — Post-2015 development agenda intergovernmental negotiations, 20-31 July, No 23: Latest version of the outcome document, released by Co-facilitators

The latest version of the outcome document has just been made available by the Co-facilitators.

There will be a plenary meeting today, Friday, at 9 p.m. in conference 1. Conference room 2 will serve as an overflow room.

The meeting will also be webcast at webtv.un.org

Post-2015 development agenda intergovernmental negotiations, 20-31 July, No 21: Discussions on latest draft

Following  the  release of the draft document on 30 July, the intergovernmental body reconvened at about 8pm (EDT) for a session, which the Co-facilitators expected to last up a little after 10 pm. According to Ambassador David Donoghue, the mood in room that such  that as would deliver a good results.  

Statements were made from the Groups, beginning with the South Africa, speaking on behalf of G77 and China . While the draft outcome document is not perfect, as it doesn’t reach all their concerns, they said that agreement is possible. I.t is an issue of a delicate compromise and they should avoid making perfection the enemy of good. They then outlined the paragraphs with which they had problems.
