Post-2015 development agenda intergovernmental negotiations, 20-31 July, No 11: CSO statement “A Vision for Urgent Action on health, education and development”

This statement was also  delivered by Marianne Haslegrave, Commonwealth Medical Trust on Tuesday 21 July 2015

Thank you Co-facilitator,

I speak on behalf of civil society working on education, and the “Health in the Post-2015 NGO Coalition.”

Education and health for all are critical factors to fulfill the entire SDG agenda.

The Declaration should explicitly state that all governments will work towards achieving the full set of goals and targets. This requires specific and time-bound actions and not -- as now weakly worded for non-communicable diseases, “ to devoting greater efforts”...

The following statement was delivered by Rineke van Dam of Rutgers WPF on the Declaration on Tuesday 21 July 2015

I’d like to highlight the consistent support from governments, UN agencies, and CSO colleagues from around the world, who agree that gender equality, women’s rights and human rights are essential to achieve sustainable development, and must cross-cut the post-2015 agenda. We wear purple today to highlight these concerns and invite you all to join our colour campaign the rest of the week...

Post-2015 development agenda intergovernmental negotiations, 20-31 July, No 8 Opening statements from G77 and China, regional and other groups

South Africa speaking on behalf of G77 and China said that a month ago delegates felt that the document was credible and that they also welcome this draft in bringing them closer to the final agreements. Many of the concerns have been taken on board and they hope that the text can be refined. The agenda is a continuation of the work on the MDGs and addresses unfinished business, against a backdrop of Rio+20. It can also stand on its own, as well as alongside the outcome of FfD. The post-2015 development agenda is based on the three dimensions of sustainable development. The preamble is an improvement but requires more work and should be consistent with the declaration...

Third International Conference on Financing for Development -- Civil Society speaks out

Civil society and other stakeholders have issued a declaration at the end of a Civil Society Organization Forum for the Third FfD Conference taking place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Civil Society Declaration

According to civil society representatives in the Declaration, the draft outcome document does not yet rise to world’s current multiple challenges, nor does it contain the necessary leadership, ambition and practical actions, while undermining agreements in the Monterrey Consensus and the Doha Declaration. They express regret that the negotiations have diminished the FFD mandate to address international systemic issues in macroeconomic, financial, trade, tax, and monetary policies. The FFD process, underpinned by the normative function and ethos of the United Nations, best enjoys the legitimacy to address these issues. Development processes should be led by countries under the ultimate responsibility of the States through participatory processes to include all right-holders and that, if this conference is to contribute to the means of implementation for the SDGs, the Rio principle of CBDR should be taken into full account...
