Opportunity to speak during informal consultations on the HLPF Ministerial Declaration zero draft

There will be an opportunity for stakeholders to take the floor during the first reading of the zero draft of the 2016 HLPF Ministerial Declaration, as part of the Informal Consultations on the 2016 HLPF Ministerial Declaration, which are being co-facilitated by the PRs of Australia and Peru. The meeting will take place on Thursday, 23 June, 10am to 1pm, at Conference Room 11, UNHQ. 

Those interested in making a short statement must fill the form below no later thanWednesday, 22 June, 6pm NYC time (EDT). The statements should not exceed 2 minutes...

Update for ECOSOC on Indicators & Data by Statistical Commission Chair 

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) was briefed earlier this month by Wasmália Bivar of Brazil, the Chair of the UN Statistical Commission (UNSC) through viedolink, on the work to implement decisions that had been taken during the UNSC 47th session in March 2016 during its June 2016 Coordination and Management Meeting (CMM) (See: Statistical Commission adopts decision on indicators for 2030 Agenda).

As stated by Bivar, the main issue on the UNSC agenda was “Data and indicators for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” Statisticians from Member States have led the global indicator framework throughout the process...

GA President to reach out to concerned parties to get agreement on resolution on follow-up and review of 2030 Agenda

The President of the General Assembly has written to circulate a letter from the co-facilitators for the informal consultation for the resolution on follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.  

In their letter, the co-facilitators state that the text of the draft resolution as at 6 June “enjoys the widest possible support from Member States”...

Co-facilitators set out key elements for HLPF 2016 draft Ministerial Declaration

While there is a hiatus in the negotiations on the resolution on review and follow-up of the 2030 Agenda at the global level, the co-facilitators for the informal consultations on the Ministerial Declaration for the 2016 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) have circulated a key elements paper for the declaration. The consultations will begin tomorrow, Thursday 16 June from 15.00 to 18.00. On the basis of inputs a draft will be circulated to Member States on 20 or 21 June, with meetings on 23 and 24 June to hear comments and ‘informal informals’ on 27 and 28 June.

WHO: Zika virus update 14 June 2016

The third meeting of the Emergency Committee met regarding microcephaly, other neurological disorders and Zika virus. The Committee was asked to consider the potential risks of Zika transmission for mass gatherings, including the Olympic and Paralympic Games scheduled for August and September 2016, respectively, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Co-facilitators communicating next steps for resolution on follow-up and review… in due course

The President of the UN General Assembly has circulated a letter from the co-facilitators for the resolution on follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the global level, stating officially that the silence procedure was broken and that they will be communicating the next steps to Member States in due course.

Update on high-level political forum (HLPF), 11-20 July, based on briefing from Lotta Tahtinen, UNDESA

The high-level political forum (HLPF) will take place from 11-20 July at the UN and with the theme “leave no one behind” will look at all 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs). The modalities for the HLPF are set out in 67/290. There will be a five-day expert level session with interactive roundtables and town hall meetings, followed by a three-day ministerial meeting. 

Registration is open on the CSO Net until 10 June. So far 1100 individuals registered, twice the number of those registered in CSD sessions. CSOs with grounds passes should also register even if the have passes. This is to give better idea of numbers...
