The Sixth Asian and Pacific Population Conference (6APPC) was held in Bangkok, Thailand from 16 - 20 September 2013. The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) mid-term review of its outcome, which will constitute the intergovernmental regional review of the ICPD agenda in the Asia Pacific Region will be held in Bangkok from 26 – 27 November 2018. It is planned to hold a CSO Forum and a Youth Forum immediately before the Intergovernmental Meeting (dates to be confirmed) and Member States will also be encouraged to include CSOs in their delegations…

HLPF 2018: Informal Consultations on the HLPF Ministerial Declaration

The first round of informal consultations on the draft ministerial declaration of the high-level political forum on sustainable development (HLPF) for 2018, convened under the auspices of the Council, and the high-level segment of the 2018 session of the Council took place on Friday 8 June, to which Major Groups and other Stakeholders were invited to attend as observers. Information for input into this process will be available in due course. 

The consultations are  convened by the co-facilitators (Australia and Bangladesh), on behalf of the Presidency of the Council (Czech Republic).

The Regional Review for Africa will take place in Accra, Ghana, from 2 – 5 October 2015. It will be held at ‘expert and ministerial level’ and will be preceded by a civil society pre-conference. The outcomes will be the Regional Review Report and the outcome of the ministerial review. They will feed into the Secretary-General’s Report to the 52^ndsession of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) in 2019, which will be devoted to the overall review and appraisal of the implementation of the ICPD PoA. While the ICPD Programme of Action (PoA) did not have a built-in review and follow-up process such as that included in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (See para 74)[1], it called for “a regular review of the implementation”.[2] The UN General Assembly, in its resolution 49/128,[3] by which it formally adopted the PoA, while recognizing its own role in organizing such a review, requested the UN Economic and Social Council also to take on this function “including a quinquennial review and appraisal of the progress made in achieving the goals and objectives of the Programme of Action…”…
