[Important] Information about passes during the HLPF

If you have registered to attend the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) to be held on 11 - 20 July 2016 through the CSO net, please bear in mind that you must be in possession of a blue UN Grounds Pass issued by UN Pass and ID Office to enter the UN premises and attend the HLPF. In accordance with standard procedure for ECOSOC-accredited NGOs, each organization has a limit of 7 annual badges and 9 temporary badges that may be assigned to representatives at any given time. Those individuals already in possession of a valid blue UN Grounds Pass do not need to apply for a new pass.

A Global Townhall with candidates for UN Secretary-General will take place on 12 July in the UN General Assembly Hall from 6:00-9:00pm NY time. All candidates for UN Secretary-General presented so far have been invited to participate. This event will be broadcast live across the world by Al Jazeera media network, made available free to all broadcast media, and simultaneously streamed live on UN WebTV.

[Deadline - 7 July] Registration to pre-HLPF meeting on 10 July

We are very pleased to share the registration form for the MGoS pre-HLPF meeting, which will take place on 10 July 9am-3pm. The full-day preparatory meeting will promote understanding of the first HLPF after the adoption of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, including the opportunities and procedures for the following 8 days. HLPF Ministerial Declaration… revised Draft and speaking opportunity

We have received the following from DESA:

Please find attached a letter from the co-facilitators of the HLPF ministerial declaration and a revised draft text. The next reading of the draft will be on Tuesday, 28 June, at 10 a.m. in conference room 11. As indicated in the letter, MGoS will be again able to take the floor after Member States. 

Those interested in making a short statement must fill the form below no later than Monday, 27 June, 5pm NYC time (EDT).  The statements should not exceed 2 minutes and should make focused comments on the revised draft attached. The final determination of speakers and the order in which they will speak will be made by the co-facilitators, based on the inscriptions received through the form. 

Please, only fill the form if you do have a grounds pass and are planning on attending the meeting. We unfortunately cannot accommodate replacements.

Zero draft of Ministerial Declaration for 2016 HLPF

Attached is the letter from the co-facilitators and the zero draft of the Ministerial Declaration for the 2016 HLPF. Please note that the co-facilitators clearly state that civil society representatives will be able to share their comments with Member States. (See: Opportunity to speak during informal consultations on the HLPF Ministerial Declaration zero draft)

Discussions on the zero draft will begin on Thursday 23 June.

There will be an opportunity for stakeholders to take the floor during the first reading of the zero draft of the 2016 HLPF Ministerial Declaration, as part of the Informal Consultations on the 2016 HLPF Ministerial Declaration, which are being co-facilitated by the PRs of Australia and Peru. The meeting will take place on Thursday, 23 June, 10am to 1pm, at Conference Room 11, UNHQ.

Update for ECOSOC on Indicators & Data by Statistical Commission Chair 

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) was briefed earlier this month by Wasmália Bivar of Brazil, the Chair of the UN Statistical Commission (UNSC) through viedolink, on the work to implement decisions that had been taken during the UNSC 47th session in March 2016 during its June 2016 Coordination and Management Meeting (CMM) (See: Statistical Commission adopts decision on indicators for 2030 Agenda).

As stated by Bivar, the main issue on the UNSC agenda was “Data and indicators for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” Statisticians from Member States have led the global indicator framework throughout the process...
