Background
The United Nations Development Group (UNDG) recently published a report entitled ‘The SDGs are Coming to Life’* <> that provides a glimpse into how Member States are starting to implement the 2030 Agenda, with the support of the UN. Amongst its observations, it finds that national policy dialogues are being opened up to a broader range of stakeholders and that countries, including those in crisis or postcrisis situations, are boldly taking on the 2030 Agenda as an all-encompassing set of goals relevant in any circumstance.
Objective
The event will further explore the role of multistakeholder engagement for SDG achievement in countries affected by conflict or disaster-driven crises. Speakers and participants will be encouraged to reflect on the following questions:
- How do governments plan for sustainable development in contexts where emergency and recovery needs receive priority attention?
- What is the role of civil society organisations and businesses in these contexts? How can they contribute to reaching the most vulnerable people?
- How can the UN foster multi-stakeholder engagement? How can its development and humanitarian agencies collaborate better to ensure that no one is left behind?
- How can we best track and review progress in attaining the SDGs in these complex situations? What is the role of different actors in this regard?
