IAEG-SDGs posts comments on “Green” Indicators

The comments from the three day consultation on the global “green” indicators, ie those on which the Group had reached general agreement, are available on the official Inter-agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) website.

In total, 4,588 comments were submitted by UN and government agencies, NGOs, the private sector and other stakeholders to the IAEG-SDGs on the global indicators and the UN Statistics Division has released a compilation of the inputs.

The inputs are compiled on a spreadsheet document organized by Goal, with a sheet for each of the 17 SDGs. Each lists the SDG's targets and the associated proposed indicator for each target, along with the comments received. Comments range from support for the proposed indicator, to suggestions for improving the indicator, or recommendations to re-categorize the indicator as not having consensus, due to remaining conceptual or methodological issues ("gray" indicators). Responses also highlight indicators for which there is no globally collected data, and raise concern about overlapping indicators.

Indicators related to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights

There is a total of 60 comments on indicator 1 and 34 on indicator 2 on target 3.7: by 2030, ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services, including for family planning, information and education, and the integration of reproductive health into national strategies and programmes.

For target 5.6: Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights as agreed in accordance with the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and the Beijing Platform for Action and the outcome documents of their review conferences, there are 86 comments on indicator 1 and 54 on indicator 2.

The SDGs that garnered the most comments are: Goal 3 (health), with 744 inputs on 21 indicators; Goal 4 (education), with 722 comments on ten indicators; and Goal 5 (gender), with 636 comments on 14 indicators. Two proposed indicators on education received 135 and 138 inputs.
