The Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, José Graziano da Silva, the President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Gilbert Houngbo, and the Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), David Beasley, will brief Member States on The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) and The State of Food and Agriculture (SOFA). The Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations, in its capacity as Chair of the Group of Friends on Food Security and Nutrition, will co-sponsor the briefing.
During the Opening of the World Data Forum, Amina J Mohammed said that “We live during a time of unprecedented challenge – but, equally, unprecedented and massive opportunity” and that the 2030 Agenda is the “blueprint” for addressing these challenges and seizing the opportunities. Nevertheless, more and better data is required for achieving the SDGs which will help to identify the most appropriate solutions for sustainable development.

The UN World Data Forum 2018 opened in Dubai on 22 October 2018, bringing together data and statistics experts to explore ways to apply data and statistics; measure global progress; and inform evidence-based policy decisions on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This second UN World Data Forum follows the first Forum which was held in Cape Town in 2017 (See: First UN World Data Forum begins in Cape Town, South Africa on Sunday 15 January 2017. It is hosted by the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority of the United Arab Emirates, with support from the Statistics Division of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, under the guidance of the UN Statistical Commission and the High-level Group for Partnership, Coordination and Capacity-Building for Statistics for the 2030 Agenda.
The Asia-Pacific CSO Forum will be held on 24-25 November 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. It serves as a NGOs and community based organizations that are familiar with ICPD processes and that work on SRHR, Gender Equality, HIV, Human Rights, Migration, Aging, Youth, Climate Change, or Conflict in Asia and the Pacific are particularly encouraged to apply. If your organization is interested in being attending, please carefully review the full call for participation here.

The CSO consultation outcome document (attached in English and French) was adopted unanimously at the Expert Meeting held in Accra, Ghana during the ICPD+25 Regional Review for Africa of the Addis Ababa Declaration on Population and Development (AADPD), 2-5 October 2018.

The Interregional Preparatory Meeting for the Mid Term Review of the SAMOA Pathway will be held in Apia, Samoa, from 30 October to 1stNovember 2018. This Meeting will be preceded by the Interregional Partnerships Dialogue, on 29 October 2018.
The Interregional Meeting is being held pursuant to paragraphs 27 and 28 of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 72/217, which reaffirmed the 2016 General Assembly’s decision (A/RES/71/225) to convene a one-day high-level review, at United Nations Headquarters in September 2019,…
