Nominate civil society speakers and attendees for the UN President of the General Assembly's High-level Thematic Debate on "Achieving gender equality and empowerment of women and girls for a transformative post-2015 development agenda"  

Dear Colleagues,

At the request of the Office of the President of the General Assembly (OPGA), UN-NGLS is conducting an open nomination process for 3 civil society speaking roles in the President's High-level Thematic Debate on "Achieving gender equality and empowerment of women and girls for a transformative post-2015 development agenda." This event will take place on 6 March 2015 at UN Headquarters in New York. Travel funding will be provided for the 3 civil society speakers that are selected. First session of post-2015 negotiations start today

The first three-day session of the negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda begins today. It will focus on the process up to now, looking particularly at Integrating sustainable development goals and targets into the post-2015 development agenda; the Declaration; Means of implementation and Global Partnership for Sustainable Development; and Follow –up and review. There will be an interactive dialogue with Major Groups and other Stakeholders on Wednesday afternoon.

SDSN launches new global consultation on SDG Indicators report

Today the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) is launching a new global consultation on “Indicators and a Monitoring Framework for the SDGs.” This draft report presents a comprehensive indicator framework for the UN Open Working Group goals and outlines major indicator gaps that must be filled over the next twelve months. The draft incorporates comments from hundreds of organizations and has been prepared in consultation with the UN Statistics Division.

The new consultation will run from January 16 - 31. We seek expert input to improve the framework, fill gaps, and consider the widest possible evidence. Please submit all comments via the webform on our website.

“Smart Investments for Financing the Post-2015 Development Agenda” from High-Level Task Force for ICPD

The High-Level Task Force for ICPD has published a new advocacy brief: “Smart Investments for Financing the Post-2015 Development Agenda”. It  gathers compelling data available on the costs of inaction and the economic and financial returns on investing in four key areas: gender equality/human rights of women and girls; sexual and reproductive health and rights; ending gender-based violence; and adolescents and youth. It is  available here.

Civil society speaker selected for High-level Thematic Debate

At the request of the Office of the President of the General Assembly (OPGA), the  UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN-NGLS) conducted an open process to obtain nominations for a civil society speaker in the President of the General Assembly's High-level Thematic Debate on Means of Implementation for a Transformative Post-2015 Development Agenda. This event will take place at UN Headquarters in New York on 9-10 February. 

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Sam K. Kutesa, has selected the following civil society representative to speak during the event's panel discussion on "The Role of Parliaments, City and Local Authorities in the implementation of the post-2015 development agenda" on 10 February:

Post-2015 negotiations: 21 January interactive dialogue with Major Groups and other stakeholders

We have received the following information from the UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service for organizations wishing to speak in the interactive dialogue with Major Groups and other stakeholders:

Dear Colleagues, 

On the afternoon of Wednesday, 21 January, the intergovernmental negotiations of the post-2015 development agenda will include an interactive dialogue with Major Groups and other stakeholders. 

This interactive dialogue is currently scheduled for 3:00-5:00pm, as indicated in the programme for the 19-21 January stocktaking session for the intergovernmental negotiations.

Intergovernmental negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda

The first session of the process for negotiating the post-2015 development agenda will be held at the UN in New York, 19-21 January 2015. It will be a “stock-taking event”, to be opened by the President of the General Assembly and Secretary-General as well as by the Co-facilitators, Ambassadors Macharia Kamau and David Donoghue. The three day session will consider the Synopsis of the process: how we got here; Integrating sustainable development goals and targets into the post-2015 development agenda; the Declaration; Means of Implementation and the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development and Follow up and review. There will also be an interactive dialogue with Major Groups and other Stakeholders.
