IPPF launches SDGs: A SRHR CSO guide to implementation

The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) has launched its Sustainable Development Goals: A SRHR CSO guide to implementation, which is available in English, Spanish and French, with Portuguese and Arabic versions to follow.

The purpose of this publication is to set out what the new 2030 Agenda means for CSOs working on SRHR and how it can be used to push for progress at a national level. It details relevant targets, looks at how they relate to existing programmes and commitments and suggests ways to ensure that they are implemented. It describes specific actions that national advocates may want to consider taking to drive progress on the development and implementation of national plans, to play a role in monitoring and accountability, and to support the measurement of progress...

IAEG-SDGs posts comments on “Green” Indicators

The comments from the three day consultation on the global “green” indicators, ie those on which the Group had reached general agreement, are available on the official Inter-agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) website.

In total, 4,588 comments were submitted by UN and government agencies, NGOs, the private sector and other stakeholders to the IAEG-SDGs on the global indicators and the UN Statistics Division has released a compilation of the inputs...

EU Report on science, technology and innovation policies and implementation of SDGs available on line

We have received the following from the EU Commission on Research & Innovation

The report “The role of science, technology and innovation policies to foster the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals” is available online.

The report presents the conclusions of the independent Expert Group on the “Follow-up to Rio+20, notably the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” that was established in March 2015 by the European Commission under Horizon 2020 (Societal Challenge 5 - Work Programme for 2014-2015, pp. 79-80).

General Assembly debate on Private Sector involvement in 2030 Agenda

As reported by IISD, on 4 November 2015 the UN General Assembly Second Committee discussed partnerships in the post-2015 era, particularly the engagement of the private sector in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Informal meeting of the Plenary to hear about progress in the development of the Global Indicator framework for the SDGs pursuant to para 75 of Resolution 70/1. 

In Sept adopted 2030 Agenda for SDGs, one of the items left for finalization during 70th session including the indicators. The Statistical Commission is tasked with overseeing development of a framework and IAEG – SDGs has been formed to develop indicator framework and list of indicators for monitoring of the goals and targets at the global level. It is also asked to conduct its work in an open, inclusive and transparent manner. The framework will be simple but robust. It will be adopted by Statistical Commission, then ECOSOC and then the General Assembly. 

John Pullinger, Chair of the Stat Com: confirmed that they are on track according to the agreed mandate and schedule. He referred to the international agencies that have provided important advice and said that countries that are not members of the Group participated actively as observers, together with experts from civil society, academia and the private sector. Brief consultation on the draft indicators for which IAEG-SDGs has reached general agreement

At the recent meeting of the Interagency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) in Bangkok, the members reached general agreement on 159 of the more than 200 draft indicators for the SDGs.  

They have color coded the list of draft indicators, marking those on which they reached general agreement green, and those which need additional work grey. This list is available in the documents section of the IAEG-SDGs web page for the Bangkok meeting...

URGENT – Open consultation on proposed global SDG indicators coded as ‘green’ launched on 4 November 2015

As agreed at the 2nd IAEG-SDGs meeting in Bangkok, an open consultation is taking place on the proposed SDG Indicators that were coded as "green" ahead of the meeting. As indicated by the co-chairs of the IAEG-SDGs, additional comments on the indicators coded as "green" during the meeting can also be submitted. The consultation is open from Wednesday, 4 November 9 am EST to Saturday, 9 am 7 November EST.

The consultation is open to observers (non-IAEG Member States and representatives of regional commissions and regional and international agencies) and other stakeholders (civil society, academia and private sector) for technical comments...

IAEG-SDGs sets work plan for finalizing indicators
