Meeting HLPF WG Monday 22 Feb, 9:30 am EST

TO UN DESA NGO MAJOR GROUP & OTHER STAKEHOLDERS

Members of the NGO MG are invited to provide their inputs for 4 representatives of Major Groups and other Stakeholders (MGoS) who will be attending a retreat hosted by Germany and Republic of Korea for the 2016 HLPF volunteering countries in New York from 23-24 February (see attached draft programme and concept note).

Background

Last Friday UN DESA/DSD informed members of the HLPF Working Group that there will be a retreat hosted by Germany and Republic of Korea for the 2016 HLPF volunteering countries in New York from 23-24 February. They informed us that there will be space for 4 representatives of MGoS however with no travel funding available. They suggested that due to the short time frame, we follow the cluster practice of Rio+20 of having 4 seats allocated based upon four clusters of the 9 major groups plus the "other stakeholders". Each cluster would be responsible for selecting a representative by today, Friday, 19 February.

Children & Youth, Women and NGO Major Groups  were invited to designate one of the four MGoS representatives. The organizing partners  of each MG were responsible for selecting a candidate from their respective constituencies. Three candidates that were then reviewed collectively by the OPs of MGCY, WMG and NGO MG who were responsible for choosing one representative. With apologies, the NGO OPs had little time to inform and conduct a formal nomination process to the wider NGO MG in advance, however we did receive nominations from NY-based NGO representatives based upon the announcement made by UN DESA to the HLPF Working Group.

Following a review of these nominations, the OPs of MGCY, WMG and NGO MG  are pleased to announce that we have chosen Nicole Cardinal, Senior Advocacy Adviser of Save the Children, to be one of the four representatives of the MGoS. Nicole has led their organization’s work on the post-2015 agenda at the UN since 2013 and has been highly engaged in multiple post-2015 processes and outreach with Member States, including the OWG on the SDGs and the intergovernmental negotiations.

Please find below the information to join the HLPF WG meeting with the four MGOS representatives attending the retreat hosted by the German Mission on 23 and 24 February. As you know, the representatives are yet to be announced by their respective clusters.
