Special Session on COVID 19: Accreditation — where we are now (29 November)

For non-consultative CSOs, Academia and the Private Sector

1. Organizations, not in consultative status, were invited to apply to participate in the Special Session, on an non-objection basis (which meant that provided no UN Member State objected, the organization would be approved).

2. On 19 November, the President of the UN General Assembly circulated this list to to Member States saying that if there were no objections from them by 25 November 2020, the list would be approved. There were 56 organizations on the list.

3. On 25 November, he circulated this list stating that these organizations have been approved. There are 54 organizations on the list.

We have not compared both lists.

For non-consultative organizations what it means is as follows:

  • Organizations had to complete the application form
  • They were then put on the list for approval by the President of the UN General Assembly
  • Those approved were on the list circulated on25 November

4. Even if organizations has not been approved, there is a possibility that they can follow the Special Session on UN WebTV.

For NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC

We are waiting for further clarification as to approval of NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC.
