CPD52 - draft declaration - update on silence procedure

In the email below, the Chair has confirmed that the silence has not been broken and that the text of the draft declaration will be adopted on 1 April 1 in the opening session of the CPD:

Excellency,

I am pleased to inform you that the silence was not broken before noon today.  I take it, therefore, that we have agreed on the text of the draft declaration as circulated yesterday at 5.59 p.m.

The political declaration that we will adopt next Monday morning, the 1st of April, will both commemorate the 25-year anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development and reaffirm Member State commitment to the goals and objectives contained in the Programme of Action adopted in Cairo in 1994.

I wish to thank all delegations for your constructive engagement in the consultations convened in February and March, and particularly for your flexibility and willingness to compromise in pursuit of our shared objectives.

Yours sincerely,

E. Courtenay Rattray
Permanent Representative of Jamaica to the United Nations and Chair-designate of the 52nd session of the Commission on Population and Development
