Expert Group Meeting of the ECOSOC President, 20-21 January

The ECOSOC President is holding a two-day retreat on 20-21 January on “Advancing implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through policy integration”. Its objectives are:

  • To facilitate preparations for the 2017 HLPF and foster synergies with the FfD and STI forums
  • To engage in discussions aimed at ensuring a coherent review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the global level in light of its holistic and indivisible nature in the course of this first four year cycle
  • ECOSOC system to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, in keeping with existing mandates and responsibilities. 

There will be five sessions:

  • Framing session: Policy integration, follow-up and review and partnerships
  • Ensuring coherence in follow-up and review – next steps with the thematic reviews and VNRs (voluntary national reviews)
  • ECOSOC forum on financing for development follow-up
  • Coherent follow-up on the MOI of the 2030 Agenda
  • Wrap-up session

The expected outcome is an informal summary paper. (See attached concept paper)

Civil society is invited to participate through members of the Major Groups and other Stakeholders who have been invited individually. A questionnaire has therefore been set up into which organizations and individuals can make their views known by Wednesday 18 January. The meeting will also be discussed by members of the Coordinating Mechanism.
