Post-2015 development agenda intergovernmental negotiations 20-31 July, no 18: completion of discussion on ‘draft outcome document for adoption’

In an extended session yesterday (Wednesday) morning, the intergovernmental body completed its review of the ‘draft outcome document for adoption’. The Co-facilitators then went away to revise the document and a new version will be available about 12 noon (EDT).

While Member States and groups are moving towards agreement on several issues, a number of key concerns will remain, which the Co-facilitators will hopefully be able to address in the new draft. These include:

  • CBDR and shared responsibility
  • ICPD and Beijing and the outcome documents of their review conferences (in paragraph 12)
  • Role of the family (in paragraph 44)
  • Addis Ababa Action Agenda -- how it is to be included
  • Preamble and ‘5 Ps’
  • Chapeau and reservations to the SDGs

The issue of paragraph 44 on the family may have been resolved insofar as Liberia suggested that it be deleted, rather than amended to include a broader interpretation of families.

As for the chapeau, Australia made an intervention in which they demonstrated that the Introduction now includes the areas in the chapeau and suggested that any others could be added.

We will post the latest version of the outcome document as soon as it is available. The IGN will resume its deliberations at 3pm / 15.00 (EDT)
