Open Working Group – proposed revised goals 1-3

The proposed revised goals, as worked on in the informal meetings of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development during the past two days, are now available.

Sexual and reproductive health has been added to target 1 “3.1 by 2030 reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100,000 live births, including through access to sexual and reproductive health”.

This is still far from the language  has been recommended by a wide range of civil society organizations: 

3.1 By 2030 end preventable maternal mortality and morbidity.

3.1 bis By 2030, achieve sexual and reproductive health and rights for all, including universal access to sexual and reproductive health information, education, services and commodities, particularly for adolescents and youth.

Please contact the relevant Government ministries/departments today and ask them to support the inclusion of the stronger language, as sexual and reproductive health and rights includes but goes far beyond contributing to the reduction of maternal mortality.
