UNGA Reaches Informal Agreement on Post-2015 Summit Organization
As reported by the IISD, Member States have informally agreed on a draft resolution on the ‘Organization of the UN Summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda,' which includes on the dates of the Summit, itself. It will take place on 25-27 September 2015, in New York, US, with the 70th session of the UN General Debate beginning on 28 September. (See: Consultations to continue on Post-2015 summit modalities)
The Summit will be convened as a High-level Plenary meeting of the UNGA and include plenary meetings concurrent with interactive dialogues. The rules of procedure and established practices of the UNGA will apply, unless otherwise decided.
The UN General Assembly President is requested to organize and preside over two days of informal interactive hearings with representatives of Major Groups, civil society and the private sector, before June 2015, and to prepare a summary of the hearings.
The UN General Assembly reaffirms its decision, in launching the post-2015 development agenda, to consider convening a meeting of the High-level Political Forum on sustainable development (HLPF) under its auspices in 2015, to launch the new agenda.
All Member States are encouraged to participate in the Summit at the head of state or government level; invite the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to develop and submit a contribution to the Summit; and invite UN funds, programmes and agencies, UN regional agencies, international financial institutions, parliamentarians, the private sector, Major Groups and civil society and other stakeholders to participate in the Summit; and address financing for participation, particularly for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
The annexes to the document include further information annexes on the organization of the Summit.
