Co-Facilitators for preparatory process of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development set out roadmap to Addis

The President of the UN General Assembly has appointed HE George Wilfred Talbot, Permanent Representative of Guyana and HE Geir O Pederson, Permanent Representative of Norway as Co-Facilitators for the preparatory process of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development.

The first informal meeting took place on Friday 17 October beginning the process leading up the third International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 13 – 16 July 2015.

As set out in General Assembly resolution 68/279, there will be a maximum of eight working days substantive informal sessions on relevant thematic areas, plus two working days for informal interactive hearings with representatives of civil society and the business sector during the period up to March 2015. These will be informed by the Monterrey Consensus and the Doha Declaration on Financing for Development and will take into account the report of the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts on Sustainable Development Financing; the report by the Open Working Group on sustainable development goals; and the Secretary-General’s synthesis report, when it becomes available.

The dates for substantive informal sessions are:

  • 17 Oct  (1/2 day) Opening session
  • 10 Nov  (1/2 day) Global context
  • 11 - 13 Nov Mobilisation and effective use of resources
  • 9 -11 Dec Enabling environment and systemic issues
  • 12 Dec or 14 Jan Learning from partnerships and follow-up process 
  • 15 – 16 Jan Informal interactive hearings with civil society and the business sector

Regional consultations will also be held (dates to be decided).

Drafting sessions for the outcome document are scheduled for: 

  • 27-29 Jan 1st drafting session
  • 13-17 Apr 2nd drafting session
  • 15-19 Jun 3rd drafting session
