Eighth session of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals

 

The eighth session of the Open Working Group (OWG-8) on Sustainable Development Goals will be held in New York, 3-7 February 2014. It will deal with:

  • Oceans and seas, forests, biodiversity
  • Promoting equality, including social equity, gender equality and women’s empowerment
  • Conflict prevention, post-conflict peacebuilding and the promotion of durable peace, rule of law and governance

Gender equality will be discussed on the morning of Wednesday 5 February. The keynote speakers will be Professor Joseph Stiglitz of Columbia University and Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women, after which there will be a general interactive exchange of views on Promoting equality, including social equity, gender equality and women’s empowerment. In the afternoon there will be a panel discussion with Professor José Antonio Ocampo, Columbia University and Lenín Moreno, Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Disability and Accessibility, after which the general interactive exchange of views will continue, and again on the morning of Thursday 6 February.
