Further information on Options for moving forward to the next stage of the work of the Open Working Group

 

The Co-Chairs have written to members of the Open Working Group (OWG) to elaborate further the process for its method of working after the end of this phase of their work.

They will produce a “concise stock-taking report based on the themes covered during the entire stock-taking phase.”  The OWG will start with consensus building on the goals and targets in accordance with GA decision 67/555 through which it was established.

Following the opinioned expressed in the discussions during OWG-7, the process will proceed “on the basis of the documents that they will present officially. It will be “an inclusive and representative list/compendium of priority areas of sustainable development and the universal commitments needed to make significant and measurable progress in those areas” and in addition to being based on the stock-taking process will be “guided by the criteria and principles of the Rio+20 Outcome Document (The Future We Want). (Option A)

There will be no intersessional consultations, but an open, informal consultations on Tuesday 4 February at 6-8 pm.
