Open Working Group, Sixth Session (OWG-6)

The 6th Session of the Open Working Group (OWG-6), Monday 9 to Friday 13 December 2013, will have before it the following for consideration:

  • Means of implementation (science and technology, knowledge-sharing and capacity building); Global partnership for achieving sustainable development
  • Needs of countries in special situations; African countries, Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Land-Locked Developing Countries (LLDCs), and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) as well as specific challenges facing middle-income countries
  • Human rights, the right to development, global governance

According to the draft Programme of Work, Dr Navanetham Pillay, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, will introduced the general interactive exchange of views of Human rights, the right to development, global governance, on Friday 13 December.

The TST Issues Brief: Human rights including the right to development includes a specific reference to sexual and reproductive health and rights under the section on stock-taking. It also says the Rio+20 outcome document The Future We Want, reiterates “an extensive catalogue of human rights commitments” including “all human rights in the context of sexual and reproductive health. This is a reference to paragraph 145, which says “…commitments leading to sexual and reproductive health and the promotion and protection of all human rights in this context.”
