Latin American Consultation for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on the review process for ICPD 2014

Representatives of more than 70 social organizations and movements in Latin America met in Montevideo, Uruguay “to demand higher commitment from their governments to deliver on the promises they made at the International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo 1994.”

The objectives of the meeting, which were in line with those of the Caribbean CSOs Regional Consultation Meeting on ICPD+20 held in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, were to:

  • Foster regional, subregional and national information exchange on issues related to the implementation of the ICPD Programme of Action (PoA) from a CSO perspective (main achievements, challenges and recommendations).
  • Share and propose substantive inputs and themes to improve the review of the implementation of the ICPD PoA, including the Global Survey.
  • Identify priorities and strategic advocacy interventions which would enable LAC CSOs to monitor and follow-up the Cairo Beyond 2014 process.

At the end of the meeting the Compromiso de Montevideo (English translation) was adopted. You are invited to share it with your various networks.

For a report on the meeting see ICPD Beyond 2014 website.
