An Action Agenda for Sustainable Development: Report of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN)

The report of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) entitled “An Action Agenda for Sustainable Development,” was delivered to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon by the Leadership Council of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network. It outlines 10 sustainable development priorities, covering the four main dimensions of sustainable development: economic growth and the end of poverty, social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and good governance.

IPPF proudly adds 3 more members to Family Planning task force

IPPF is proud to announce that 3 of its members have been appointed as key members of the FP2020 working groups.

The FP2020 Reference Group contains 4 working groups. Their aim is to provide technical support in the global effort to support women and girls, no matter where they live, to have the same access to lifesaving contraceptives and services.

Arrangements for CSO input into the 4th Session of the Open Working Group (OWG)

In order to include concrete proposals and recommendations for the sustainable development goals (SDGs) from a broad range of stakeholders, the Open Working Group (OWG) co-chairs have decided to convene meetings with representatives from Major Groups and other stakeholders from 9:00 to 10:00 each morning during the OWG sessions.  Each of the morning meetings is organized around the thematic clusters that correspond to the organization of work of the open working group for that day.

The issues briefs have been posted on the OWG website including those on population dynamics and health. 

TST Issue Brief: Population dynamics

The TST Issue Brief: Population dynamics highlights the increasing divergence between countries in population trends. The least developed countries continue to have high population growth, while the developing countries that are more advanced in their demographic transition are experiencing rapid population ageing and even population decline in some instances. There is also a high rate of urbanization and complex migration patters at both international and internal levels.

Fourth session of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals

The fourth meeting of the intergovernmental Open Working Group on sustainable development goals called for in the Rio+20 Outcome Document will be convened on 17-19 June 2013.

The meeting will be broadcasted through United Nations webcast.

The themes for the meeting include Employment and decent work for all, social protection, youth, education and culture and Health, Population Dynamics. See attached agenda for further information.

UN-NGLS Consultation begins on Post-2015 Development Agenda

The UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN-NGLS) has announced a consultation they are facilitating, at the request of the Executive Office of the Secretary-General, to gather critical analysis from civil society on the post-2015 development agenda. International Conference on Population and Development

What is ICPD

The International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) was held in Cairo, 1994. It was a milestone in the history of population and development. The result was an impressive and ambitious set of goals for improving sexual health and reproductive rights all over the world.

These goals are known as the ICPD Programme of Action. Its focus is wider than sexual and reproductive health. It links the interrelationships between population, sustained economic growth, health, education, economic status and empowerment of women. Remarkably, it was the first time world leaders agreed to invest in people, not demographic targets. 179 countries committed to implement this by 2015. It will be reviewed in 2014. IPPF is convening civil society.
