Inputs requested: e-Consultation on gender, water and sanitation, COVID19, climate, privatization launched by ActionAid and WaterAid

WaterAid are sharing an online consultation launched today by ActionAid and WaterAid, in the lead-up to the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action. Emerging out of our intended collaboration around CSW64, the e-consultation intends to garner inputs to a joint action agenda on gender and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) to strengthen the Beijing commemoration and the Generation Equality process.

In light of the global COVID-19 pandemic and its disproportionate effects on women, safe water especially for handwashing both in households and public spaces is increasingly urgent to reduce women’s and girls’ burden of unpaid care work and in fulfilment of their human rights. As the climate crisis and increasing privatization of public services further threaten access to water, a collective agenda on WASH and gender equality rooted in multilateral commitment is fundamental to global advocacy around women’s and girls’ rights.

The e-consultation will be open from today (15 June) through 17 July, and will culminate in written analysis of the inputs as well as a webinar to share the proposals and examples it garners, ahead of the September commemoration of Beijing+25 at the UN General Assembly and the Generation Equality process next year. We very much welcome your inputs and look forward to your contributions to this collective analysis. We’d also be grateful if you would share this e-consultation with your networks working on gender equality, women’s rights, and water, sanitation and hygiene, as we also view this e-consultation as an opportunity to work across sectors and learn from each other.
