51st session of the UN Statistical Commission – Update 1

The 51st session of the Statistical Commission will take place at the UN in New York from 3-6 March 2020.

Agenda item 3a relates to the data and indicators for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Committee will have before it the report of the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) on the ongoing work for the implementation of the global indicator framework (GIF) for the Sustainable Development Goals and targets (GIF).

The report includes: 

  • tier classification updates
  • the 2020 comprehensive review of the GIF
  • activities within the work stream on data disaggregation and undertaken by the Working Group on Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange for Sustainable Development Goal Indicators and the Working Group on Geospatial Information. 

The Commission will also have before it a background document on Interlinkages on the SDGs.

The Commission is tasked with the approval of (a) the revised GIF; and (b) the programme of work of the group for 2020
