UN General Assembly Preparatory Process for the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration

  • Serve on the Stakeholder Steering Committee for the full preparatory process

For NGOs, civil society organizations, diaspora organizations, migrant organizations, academic institutions, private sector entities, and National Human Rights Institutions

At the request of the Office of the President of the General Assembly, UN-NGLS, UN DESA, UN University, and the UN Global Compact, with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), are facilitating the participation of the stakeholders listed above in the informal interactive multi-stakeholder hearings and the six informal thematic sessions of the preparatory process for a global compact on migration. An informational note about the preparatory process is available here.

The special accreditation application process that was open through 17 April was for organizations / institutions / entities NOT in consultative status with ECOSOC, and the list of organizations will soon be circulated to UN Member States on a non-objection basis.

I. Attend the first Thematic Session on "Human rights of all migrants" 8-9 May 2017 at the UN Office at Geneva

Individual representatives of: 1) relevant organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC, 2) organizations / institutions / entities that applied for special accreditation*, and 3) National Human Rights Institutions, may now apply to attend the first Thematic Session of the preparatory process:

DEADLINE: 2 May 2017

 *Confirmation of attendance for representatives of organizations / institutions / entities that applied for special accreditation is pending UN Member States review of the list of organizations applying for special accreditation on a non-objection basis.

The registration application form at the link above is for NGOs, civil society organizations, diaspora organizations, migrant organizations, academic institutions, private sector entities, and National Human Rights Institutions.

II. Serve on the Stakeholder Steering Committee

Representatives of the multiple stakeholder organizations listed above may also apply to serve on a Stakeholder Steering Committee for the full preparatory process. More information, Terms of Reference, and the application form for the Steering Committee is available here.
