IAEG-SDGs: way forward and next steps
November 2016 -- March 2017
In the final session Yongyi Min briefed participants on the IAEG’s next steps. It will:
Nov 2016: finalize the indicator and prepare and submit its report to the Statistical Commission (early December)
Dec 2016 – Jan 2017: further develop the work plans for Tier III indicators and prepare a background document for the Statistical Commission
Dec 2016 – Feb 2017: harmonize categories for data disaggregation for the global indicators
Dec 2016 – Mar 2017: review possible Tier III indicators to be “fast-tracked” for discussion at the 5th IAEG-SGDs meeting
March 2017 – March 2018
The IAEG-SDGs will:
- Regularly update the work plans for Tier III indicators
- Review indicators for Tier reclassification when needed
- Initiate the consultation on possible additional indicators, review inputs and finalize a list of proposed additional indicators to present to the 49th session of the Statistical Commission in March 2018
- Joint working group of IAEG-SDGs and the HLG (High-level Group) will review the data available for Tier I and Tier II indicators and make recommendation for increasing the data coverage of Tier II indicators
- Harmonize the categories for data disaggregation and review the indicators based on the data disaggregation categories
- Continue the work of the three working groups on SDMX, Geospatial information and interlinkages
- Hold two physical meetings, the first in March 2017 and the second in the fall/autumn of 2017, at dates to be determined, and also continue to interact electronically and via teleconferences, as needed
The Chair confirmed that the current membership of the IAEG expires in May 2017, and that the mandate from the UNSC calls for rotation of the membership within regions for both the IAEG and the HLG.
