IAEG-SDGs comments on “grey” indicators now available

The 2210 comments to the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) from UN Member States, UN organizations and civil society representatives on the “grey” indicators for monitoring progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their respective targets, made during an online consultation for non-IAEG Member States and representatives of UN and other organizations, have been posted on the IAEG website. They have been compiled into a matrix under each of the 17 goals.

Under Goal 3; Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages, 163 comments were received for target 3.8, indicator 3.8.1, and 75 comments for 3.8.2. Thirty-seven comments were made under target 3.9, indicator 3.9.2. There were more comments for target 3.8, which calls to "achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all,” than for any other.

For Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, under target 4.7, 116 comments were made. None of the indicators for Goal 5 are “grey” indicators.

The IAEG-SDGs is mandated to present its recommended global indicator framework to the UN Statistical Commission in March 2016.

The online consultation took place from 9-15 December 2015.
