Looking back at the Addis Conference on Family Planning in the context of the Post-2015 Development Agenda

It is just under a month since the International Conference on Family Planning took place in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.

One of the important issues discussed at the Conference was the Demographic Dividend. Tewodros Melesse, Director-General of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) chaired a High Level Ministerial Discussion on this topic, in which several ministers participated. During the Conference ActionAid, the White Ribbon Alliance, and Womankind Worldwide joined IPPF in drawing attention to the fact that if women’s and girls empowerment, maternal health, gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights are not fully included in the post-2015 development agenda that it will be doomed to failure. IPPF organized the FP2020 civil society event on day one of the Conference. The session, which was packed with delegates, targeted  accountability. Experiences shared from various organizations showed that challenges exist but that for this very reason the voices of civil society must be encouraged during the FP2020 process.  The 3 chairs of the CSO group were present and presentations were made by Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU) and  the Cameroon Agenda for Sustainable Development (CASD) For further information click here.
