Summit of the Future No 49: Reappointment of co-facilitators of the intergovernmental preparatory processes

In his letter of 10 September, Philemon Yang ,President of the 79^th session of the General Assembly, has reappointed the co-facilitators for the intergovernmental preparatory processes, namely:

• Ambassadors Antje Leendertse of Germany and Neville M Gertze of Namibia for negotiations to conclude the outcome document, A Pact for the Future, with Ambassador Thomas P Zahneisen acting for Ambassador Leendertse until she can resume her duties
• Ambassadors Anna Karin Eneström of Sweden and Chola Milambo of Zambia for intergovernmental consultations on the Global Digital Compact
• Ambassadors Brian C M Wallace of Jamaica and Yoka Brandt, of the Netherlands for intergovernmental negotiations on the Declaration on Future Generations

Summit of the Future No 48: Update on opening segment of the Summit of the Future

The General Assembly President, in his letter of 4 September, announced that the following youth representatives have been invited to speak in the opening segment on Sunday 22 September, 09.00 (New York time):

• Monica Malith (Republic of South Sudan)
• Ghanim Mohammed Al Muftah (State of Qatar)
• Niria Alicia García (United States)

Summit of the Future No 47: Silence broken on Pact for the Future Rev 3

The following message has been circulated on behalf of the Co-Facilitators:

“Please be advised that silence on the Rev.3 has been broken. Delegations are invited to informal consultations at the ambassadorial level on Wednesday, 4 September at 11 a.m. in conference room 2. There will be no opportunity for general comments; each of the paragraphs on which silence was broken will be discussed in turn.”

Summit of the Future No 46: Global Digital Compact Rev 4

Rev 4 of the Global Digital Compact  was released and put under silence until Thursday 29 August, 3pm (NY time).

Silence was broken on a number of paragraphs, including: 8 (a) and 50, 24, 27, 29 (d), 31 (d), 35 (e), 39 (d), 55 (a) and (b), 56, 63, 68, 69 and 74 as well as 11(c), 23(a), 27, 28, 30, 31(b), 31(d), 29(d), 45(b), 56, and 57. 

Consultations are apparently taking place on a number of the paragraphs on a bi-lateral basis. We will post information as to the next steps when we receive it. 

Summit of the Future No 45: Pact for the Future Rev 3

The Pact for the Future Rev 3 will be under silence under Tuesday 3 September, 1pm (NY time).

In his accompanying letter, Ambassador Neville M Gertze says that Rev 3 builds on Rev 2, and includes “the input submitted by the Co-Chairs of the Intergovernmental Negotiations on Security Council Reform in their letter dated 23 August.” The language in Action 14 and in Action 45 has therefore been adjusted accordingly to avoid repetition. 

Summit of the Future No 44: Information from Co-facilitators on silence being broken on Declaration on Future Generations

Information has been made available by the Co-Facilitators of the Intergovernmental Process for the Declaration on Future Generations, on silence being broken on Rev 3 of the Declaration by several delegation. Further information will be provided in due course.

Organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC: participation in the Summit of the Future

Information is now available for organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC to register for the Summit of the Future. 

Insofar as space is very limited, not all organizations will have direct seating. Some overflow space will be available but again limited. Each organization may register up to two representatives, with each registering individually, using the dedicated link. 

Registrants will receive an approval letter, if approved. 

The deadline for registration is 11:59 PM EDT on 19 August 2024. 

Summit of the Future No 41: Provisional programme

The President of the UN General Assembly, Dennis Francis, has circulated the provisional programme for the Summit of the Future (SOTF) to be held under the theme Summit of the Future: Multilateral solutions for a better tomorrow from 22 – 23 September.
