Regional Consultation on the Post-2015 Agenda in Istanbul, Turkey on 6-8 November

The Ministry for Development in Turkey together with UNECE and UNDP will host a regional (Europe and Central Asia) consultation in Istanbul, Turkey, 7-8 November 2013. It will be a multi-stakeholder event, bringing together representatives from governments, international organizations, civil society, the private sector, academia and media. The meeting will feature a series of thematic panel discussions and conclude with an open forum that will identify regional priorities for the post-2015 agenda and formulate the regional contributions to the global debate. The Conference background document is a report entitled “Building more inclusive, sustainable and prosperous societies in Europe and Central Asia – A common United Nations vision for a post-2015 development agenda”.

Civil society consultation, 6 November.

A CSO-consultation will be held on the 6 November, co-hosted by representatives from all Major Groups as well as the Beyond 2015 European Task Force, with financial support for the logistical arrangements from the Turkish government.  56 governments from the region (Europe and Central Asia) have been invited (see attached official invitation and proposed agenda) to the consultation on 7-8 November. CSOs will present their recommendations from the CSO-consultations and NGOS in consultative status with ECOSOC are invited to participate on the 7th and 8th with a limited number of seats, depending on the number of official delegations participating (estimated 150 seats for CSOs).

Programme for CSO Consultation

10 am – 6 pm
Coffee and lunch provided by the Turkish government
Optional reception in the evening.  

  1. Opening and round of introduction
  2. Short briefing on the Post-2015 and SDG process – keynote speaker (max. 30 minutes)
  3. Working groups by thematic areas (same as proposed areas on the 7th-8th). See below 
  4. Report back /drafting message to the regional consultation 
  5. Closing 
  6. Reception hosted by Turkish government together with the government representatives
