H E Mr Courtenay Rattray of Jamaica, the Chairperson designate, has circulated a revised draft of the Political Declaration. The next consultations, at which it will be discussed, will be held on Monday 25 March.

The main changes in the wording are in operative para (OP) 1, where the verb ‘provides’ is replaced by ‘offer’, and in OP3 where the Programme of Action and the key actions for its further implementation are seen as ‘laying a foundation’ for sustainable development and that their full and effective implementation is essential for the achievement of the SDGs and other internationally agreed development goals. This gives stronger priority to the SDGs in the Declaration.

Excellency,

On behalf of H. E. Mr. Courtenay Rattray, Permanent Representative of Jamaica to the United Nations and Chair-designate of the 52nd session of the Commission on Population and Development, please find in attachment a revised draft of the proposed outcome document.

The revised draft was prepared taking into consideration the feedback received during the informal consultations held on 6 March 2019.

As announced previously, further consultations are scheduled for Monday, 25 March 2019, from 10:00 to 13:00 (location TBC).

With kind regards,

Population Division
