Measuring progress made on targets with a 2020 deadline
Twenty-two of the SDG targets have a 2020 deadline. They are measured by 28 indicators, of which 17 are in tier I; 5 are in tier II; and 6 are in tier III. Overall they are in “better shape” than the rest of the global indicator framework.
Based on the discussion during the meeting it was agreed by the IAEG-SDGs that monitoring for these targets will continue past the 2020 deadline and also for target 17.8 which has a 2017 target (see below).
Targets with a 2020 deadline that have tier I indicators include:
2.5 maintaining the genetic diversity of seeds, cultivated plants etc…
3.6 halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents
4.b substantially expand the global number of scholarships available in developing countries…
8.6 substantially reduce youth not in employment, education or training
9.c increase in access to information and communications technology…
11.b significantly increase in number of cities and human settlements…
12.4 achieve the environmentally sound management of chemicals and all wastes…
14.5 conserve at least 10 per cent of costal and marine areas…
15.1 ensure the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services…
15.2 promote the implementation of sustainable management of all types of forests…
15.5 take urgent and significant action to reduce the degradation of natural habitats…
17.8 fully operationalize the technology bank and science, technology and innovation capacity-building mechanism for least developing countries by 2017…
17.11 significantly increase the exports of developing countries…
17.18 enhance capacity-building support to developing countries…

11.b substantially increase the number of cities and human settlements adopting and implementing integrated policies and plans towards inclusion…
14.6 prohibit certain forms of fisheries subsidies which contribute to overcapacity nd overfishing…
15.8 introduce measures to prevent the introduction and significantly reduce the impact of invasive alien species on land and water ecosystems…
17.18 enhance capacity-building support to developing countries… to increase significantly the availability of high-quality, timely and reliable data disaggregation…
