SDG Indicator 5.1.1

UN Women, the World Bank and OECD Development Centre, with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights are custodial agencies for Indicator 5.1.1 Whether or not legal frameworks are in place to promote, enforce and monitor equality and non-discrimination on the basis of sex. This indicator will track progress on Target 5.1 End all forms of discrimination against women and children everywhere, over the next 15 years.

Removing discriminatory laws and putting in place legal frameworks that advance gender equality are prerequisites to ending discrimination against women and achieving gender equality

Indicator 5.1.1 will be crucial in accelerating progress by tracking the removal of discriminatory laws and adoption of legal frameworks that promote, enforce and monitor gender equality.

With data collection finalized in the 3rd quarter of 2017, and the data validation process starting in the 4th quarter of 2017, it is proposed that the results be presented to the IAEG-SDGs in 2018.
