Civil society speakers selected for opening session and interactive panel discussion

At the request of the Office of the President of the General Assembly (OPGA), UN-NGLS facilitated a process to identify two civil society speakers for the 24 January 2017 High-level Dialogue on "Building Sustainable Peace for All: Synergies between the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustaining Peace Agenda," taking place at UN Headquarters in New York. UN-NGLS facilitated a Civil Society Selection Committee to review applications for the speaking roles and create a regionally and gender balanced short-list of candidates for the President of the General Assembly to consider.

The President of the General Assembly has now selected the following two speakers through this process:

Opening Session

Ms. Julienne Lusenge

SOFEPADI / Fonds pour les femmes congolaises (FFC)
Democratic Republic of the Congo 

Interactive Panel Discussion

Ms. Joy Onyesoh

Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF)
Nigeria

The event will include an opening session, interactive panel discussion, and the following three workshops in the afternoon:

Workshop 1: Empowering women, girls and youth for peace and sustainable development

Workshop 2: Managing natural resources for peace and sustainable development (updated 9 December)

Workshop 3: Strengthening transparent, inclusive and accountable institutions for peace and sustainable
