Paris Climate Change Agreement Ratification Event at UN Headquarters

21 September 2016

Civil society: Apply to attend

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has invited leaders from all  countries to attend a special event on 21 September 2016 at UN  Headquarters in New York from 8:00-9:00am to deposit their instruments  of ratification, acceptance, approval or accession to the Paris  Agreement on climate change. The event will also provide an opportunity  to other countries to publicly commit to joining or ratifying the  agreement before the end of 2016. The agreement will enter into force 30  days after at least 55 countries, accounting for 55 per cent of global  greenhouse gas emissions, deposit their instruments of ratification or  acceptance with the Secretary-General. It is expected that the September  event will help efforts to secure early entry into force of the  agreement.

At the request of the Executive Office of the Secretary-General, UN-NGLS is leading a process for civil society to apply to attend this event as observers.

Civil society representatives that work on climate change mitigation or adaptation interested in attending this event may apply here.

Travel funding is not available from the UN for this event.

DEADLINE: 12 September 2016
