The following email has been received from UN-NGLS:

Dear Colleague,

Thank you for your application to register for the 25-27 September United Nations Summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda.

The UN received approximately 2000 applications from civil society organizations for registration to the Summit. As this high demand exceeds capacity for the event, we ask you to please complete this form if you and/or someone else that you registered are no longer planning to attend: http://bit.ly/p2015-registration-followup.

If you are still interested in attending the Summit, please carefully review all of the information below.

A) As specified on the registration form, organizations needed one of the following forms of UN accreditation to apply for registration to the Summit:

  1. consultative status with ECOSOC
  2. on the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) roster
  3. accredited to the World Summit on Sustainable Development (Johannesburg 2002)
  4. accredited to the UN Conference on Environment and Development (Rio 1992)
  5. participated in a previous UN Summit
  6. Special accreditation to the 25-27 September 2015 UN Summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda (deadline to apply was 7 August).

All applications received were reviewed by several UN offices to verify the forms of accreditation claimed for the organizations named in the applications. The applications for special accreditation to the Summit were also jointly vetted. Approximately 600 organizations were validated for categories 1-5 above, and approximately 200 organizations were recommended for special accreditation. These lists were circulated by the President of the 69th Session of the General Assembly to UN Member States for their review on a non-objection basis. Member States objected to five of the organizations that applied for special accreditation.* The rest of the organizations are qualified to remain in consideration for allocation of passes to the Summit.

B) The lists of the organizations that remain in consideration were recently released by the Office of the President of the General Assembly (OPGA). As clarified by OPGA, if an organization appears on one of the two lists at the links below in section C, this means the representatives of the organization that applied for registration by the 24 August deadline remain in consideration to receive a pass to attend the official proceedings of the Summit (plenary and interactive dialogues). It does not mean that anyone from the organization is yet approved to receive a pass. These lists from the President of the 69th Session of the General Assembly are one aspect of the discussion with Member States about NGO participation in the summit. There will be further communication from the President of the 70th Session of the General Assembly, who assumes office on 15 September. While there is broad respect for the key role of civil society in the Summit, space constraints exist. The final number of seats that will be allocated to NGOs in the Summit is not yet known. It is possible that organizations may only receive only one pass each, and that these passes will only be valid for one segment of the Summit (i.e. one interactive dialogue, or one morning or afternoon plenary session) to be able to accommodate more organizations. Some organizations may receive a pass to the Summit overflow room. As noted above, further information will be sent later this week.

The 24 speakers selected do not need an additional registration approval.

D) Kindly note: Requests for passes emailed to UN offices will not be considered.

E) Side events of the Summit each have their own separate pass system. You may attend a side event if you obtain an invitation from a side event organizer.More than 200 side events will be organized related to the Summit, both inside and outside the UN.

UN-NGLS requests organizers of side events that are open to observers to post your side event here:
