2012 Regional Consultations for Latin American and Caribbean Region on Beyond ICPD and the MDGs: NGOs Strategising for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in the Asia-Pacific Region

  • Anglo, Dutch and French Caribbean 12-13 April, Jamaica
  • Latin American, including Spanish-speaking Caribbean 9-10 May 2012, Uruguay

  • LACWHN with support from the UNFPA regional office in Panama and its national /local offices, will be coordinating consultation meetings in the region, around the Global Survey to governments on compliance with the ICPD.

The following information is currently available:

    1. Host countries of the meetings and dates: there will be two regional consultation meetings in the region, one in the Caribbean and one in Latin America. The Caribbean will be in Jamaica on April 12-13 for the Anglo, Dutch and French and the Latin America, including Spanish-speaking Caribbean, will be in Uruguay, May 9-10.

    2. Regional Steering Committee (RSC): Both meetings will be coordinated by a Regional Coordinating Committee that had a meeting two weeks ago in Panama, where defined their roles and responsibilities until the May meeting. Among these functions are: to assemble the methodology, contents and participants to both meetings and to define and develop a proposal for a process or "critical route" pre and post meetings to Cairo +20 and beyond.

    3. Objectives: Provide input to the draft questionnaires for the global survey to be delivered to governments and contribute to the contents of possible optional modules that could be developed for each region.

Develop a detailed plan for the movement and strategies of civil society so these consultations be informed to all and continue our role of monitoring the compliance with the ICPD in 2014 and after.
