Addressing InequalitiesThe on-line discussion on ‘Addressing Inequalities in the Post-2105 Development Agenda’ has already begun with started with the aim of reviewing progress on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in terms of major inequalities and discussing the options for ensuring that these inequalities are effectively addressed in a new development framework after 2015.
The topics for the discussion are Gender equality (running from 3 to 24 October); Violence Against Women (dates to be determined); LGBT community (dates tbd); Minority groups (dates tbd); Indigenous peoples (dates tbd); and other topics to be determined (dates tbd). NGOs working on sexual and reproductive health and rights should sign on and participate in these discussions.
The outcome of the online consultation will be reflected in final report that will be discussed at a High Level Leadership Meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark in February 2013. High-level officials from governments, civil society/international NGO coalitions, UN partners, members of the Secretary-General's High-Level Panel and members of the Open Working Group on the SDGs will meet to discuss the synthesized results and findings of the online engagement and papers and will put forward a statement and recommendations on how to address inequalities in the post-2015 agenda. The aim is to build consensus on key issues and ways to address them, in order to feed into the intergovernmental discussions on the new agenda.
